Golf Course Etiquette For Newbies

By Gary Rodgers

You are getting all set to play your first round of golf. This can be thrilling but also nerve-wracking and a little overwhelming to even the most self-confident beginner.

Just before you strike the golf course, it helps to know some of the appropriate courtesy that is necessary. Knowing what the etiquette is all about, can make the first round of golf you play that much simpler for you to do.

You want to consider the appropriate tools with you when you show up on the golf course. This is associated with both the rules, as well as the etiquette of the game.

According to the rules, there is a limit of 14 clubs to be placed in each bag. There is no minimum amount, just a maximum amount.

Asking for clubs from another player is not a specifically very good idea. Under certain conditions, it is granted during a round, but in most cases, it is against the principles. As a beginner, the smartest point to do is to make sure that you have up to 14 clubs in your golfer's bag.

Before you leave for the golf course, check to see if you have a lot of golf balls and tees with you. You will most likely lose a fair amount of balls your first time around, so be geared up! It would also be a smart idea to take a ballmark repair tool with you so once you are out on the greens you will have something handy to repair with.

When you reserve a tee time, which is necessary for most places, you should show up on time. This is golf course etiquette 101. Or even better, show up at least 30 minutes early so you can get a warm up in before you start to play.

Find out what the policies for the course are ahead of time. You may have to call the day before to reserve your time, or you may have to call several days before. The earlier you arrive, the more training you can get in.
