Tracking Your Children The Traditional Way

By Odessa Edwards

Tracking your children can be daunting without the use of technology. Evidently some children tend to be creative in making excuses just to pursue their adventures. Giving them some cool gadgets or installing nifty applications on their digital toys will enable you to trace their whereabouts without annoying them. This is suitable for rambunctious toddlers and rebellious teens that often get themselves in trouble. However do not be so dependent on these tools. It still has limitations. Teaching the kids to be street smart is still the best defense you can offer them.

Stick to their schedule. Discuss its consequences before they violate the rules. Apply punishment when it is due. Be firm about it so they would remember. Encouraging them to read articles or watch late night news can also aid you with this purpose. Point out its morals. Kids are more receptive when you are not nagging them. They would easily absorb it if they feel the sincerity and love.

Contact their teachers or talk to their classmates parents in case they engage in any extra-curricular activities. If possible, ask them to call you every hour especially when you do not have time to accompany them. Enforce curfew but allow them to explain if they exceed the limit. Kids would not retaliate if their excuse was valid. Do not hesitate to say no if you feel that it is not worth it.

Know their friends. Befriend their peers. Know them better. Collect their contact numbers or mingle with their parents. Win their trust and respect. This will give you an idea where your child usually hangs out or what activities he normally does. His friends and acquaintances can also spy for you in case you feel something is wrong. However do not make this so evident. He might secretly form a new crowd once he feels threatened.

Be a role model. Tell where you are or call them especially when you are late. Explain yourself so they would do the same. Studies show that children tend to mimic their parents activities thus implementing such exercise demands you to also observe it. Remember that they look up to you so be cautious of your actions.

Spend time with the kids so you can understand their preferences, interests and character. Each child is different thus they require different approaches. Knowing how to handle their concerns will prevent occurrences of rebellion. This will also give you a chance to win their trust.

Some culprits are hiding in Cyberspace thus it is ideal to familiarize yourself with this platform. Check their online activities. Note the time they used it to trace the site they visited. Lock any site that is not ideal for their use. Be part of their friends list so you can visit their profile periodically. However be less visible in this page. You do not want to scare them in opening another account.

Tracking your children can be intimidating once done with force. Win their respect to ease the process of protecting them. Have enough patience for defiant kids. Talking to them like mature adults will enable them to absorb your teaching. Limit the sermons to avoid triggering their rebellious side.
